Randolph Edward Hatton was born on December 15, 1939, in Toronto, Toronto Municipality, Ontario, Canada. He was the son of Harold J Hatton and Gladys Hatton.

Randolph served in the Royal Canadian Navy and later enlisted in the U.S. Army in Buffalo, giving a false birth date and falsely stating he was born in the States.

His military training was at Fort Dix, New Jersey, and Fort Benning, Georgia. His tour started January 20, 1968, with Company E, 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile). PFC Hatton was Killed in action in an attack on an unidentified landing zone in Tay Ninh Province, Republic of Vietnam, on November 14, 1968.
