Robert W. Boynton was born in 1924 in Illinois. He was the son of Harold D. Boynton of Aurora, Illinois.
Robert served in the 831st Bomber Squadron, 485th Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Sergeant and Nose Gunner on the B-24H #42-52709 "Gawgia Peach" during World War II.
On June 13, 1944, his crew took off from Venosa, Italy, to bomb the ordnance depot at Milbertshofen north of Munich, Germany. Shot down by German ME109s, their aircraft crashed near Sillertshausen at about 11:00 hrs. All members were able to parachute out of the plane. Unfortunately, Sgt Boynton was murdered by Nazi officials near the crash site.
