Robert Smithwas born 1919 and was from California He served at the Pilot on the A-20 “Havoc” (43-9616) in the 85th Bomber Squadron, 47th Bomber Group (Light), 57th Bomber Wing of the 12th US Air Force. On March 18, 1945 flying from Grossetto, Italy on a night intruder mission was shot down by aintio aircraft fire from Gheddi Air Base. The plane crashed near Castenedolo, a small town close to Brescia, Italy. A memorial remembers him and the rest of the crew in Castendolo. All three crew members are buring in the Florence American Cemetery and Memorial near Florence, Italy.
