Ernest Leroy Groves was born on April 17, 1912, in Robertson County, Tennessee. He was the son of Robert Martin Groves and Herma Nell Austin Groves.

Ernest enlisted on 25 Aug 1943 at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. He�d had a grammar school education and was married. He served in the 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division, as a Private. He died on September 2, 1944, from his wounds received during the Liberation of Meximieux, France. Pvt Groves is now buried in the Rhone American Cemetery and Memorial, France.
