John William Beck was born on April 19, 1915, in Calhan, El Paso County, Colorado. He was the son of Stella Morgan Beck of Vermont, Michigan.

John served in the 107 Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Pilot Officer. Aboard the Boston III Z2252, on December 6, 1942, his crew took off at 11h:22 from Great Massingham, England. Shot down by fighters, their plane crashed at 12h:52 off the coast of Holland (The Netherlands). It was assumed that they lost their lives at sea.
