Loren Marvin Fink was born on May 24, 1919, in Belmont, Dawes County, Nebraska. He was the husband of Nina Elaine Cox Fink.

Loren served in the 366th Bomber Squadron, 305th Bomb Group, Heavy, as a Staff Sergeant and Waist Gunner on the B-17 #42-3195 during World War II. He survived an air crash on October 14, 1943, when his airplane was shot down by a German fighter plane Ofw. Heckmann 1./JG1 and crashed at Waldenrath, Germany. He was taken as a POW. He spent 19 months as a German POW and survived the Death March at the end of the war.
