Howard Bowens was born on August 21, 1924, in Lodi, Bergen County, New Jersey. He was the son of John Bowens and Maude Bruinooge Bowens.
Howard enlisted in Paterson, New Jersey, on December 17, 1942. He served in Company E, 2nd Ranger Battalion during World War II. He was Killed in Action on June 6, 1944, at the age of 19, at Pointe du Hoc, during the American assault on Omaha and Utah beaches in France. PFC Bowens is now buried in the Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-Sur-Mer, France.
