Thomas Denver Mendenhall was born on October 11, 1919, in Washington Township, Auglaize County, Ohio. He was the son of Hobert Daniel Mendenhall and Leota Lindamood Mendenhall. He was the husband of Ilean Leona Ramsier Kratzer.
Thomas was employed by Erie Railroad Company prior to his enlistment. He served in Company D, 2nd Ranger Battalion, as a Technician 5th Grade during World War II. He was Killed in Action on June 6, 1944, at the age of 24, at Pointe du Hoc, during the American assault on Omaha and Utah beaches in France. T5 Mendenhall is now buried in the Bloomfield Cemetery, Bloomfield, Washington County, Ohio, USA.
