Vayle E. Miller was born on December 1, 1917, in Marshalltown, Marshall County, Iowa. He was the son of Floyd Allen Miller and Elizabeth Wertenberger Miller.
Vayle had a grammar school education, was a carpenter employed by Arlie Breneman as a contractor, and was single without dependents upon enlistment. He entered military service in Warsaw, Indiana, on January 17, 1941. At the time of his death, Vayle was serving in Company C, 2nd Ranger Battalion, as a Technician 5th Grade during World War II. He was Killed in Action on June 6, 1944, at the age of 26, during the American assault on Omaha beach in France. T5 Miller is now buried in the Norcatur Cemetery, Norton County, Kansas, USA.
