Fred Wallis Plumlee was born on October 18, 1924, in Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia. He had four years of high school, had a civil occupation in the unskilled photographic process occupations, and was single without dependents upon enlistment.
Fred entered military service at Fort Mcpherson, Atlanta, Georgia. He served in Company C, 2nd Ranger Battalion, as a Private First Class during World War II. He was Killed in Action on June 6, 1944, at the age of 19, at Pointe de la Percée, during the American assault on Omaha Beach in France. PFC Plumlee is now buried in the Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-Sur-Mer, France.
