Joseph William Shedaker was born on September 24, 1918, in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Joseph J. and Mary F. Shedaker.

Joseph had four years of high school, had a civil occupation as a machinist apprentice, and was single without dependents upon enlistment. He entered military service in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He served in Company B, 2nd Ranger Battalion, as a Sergeant during World War II. He was Killed in Action on June 6, 1944, at the age of 25, during the American assault on Omaha Beach in France. Sgt Shedaker is now buried in the Saint Dominic Church Cemetery, Torresdale, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, USA.
