Curtis Aaron Simmons was born on March 14, 1920, in Rathbone, Steuben County, New York. He was the son of Frank Jerome Simmons and Ella May Welch Simmons.
Curtis attended Addison High School and had a grammar education. He was a farm hand and was employed by Mr. Frank J. Simmons Cameron Mills, New York, prior to his enlistment. He was single without dependents upon enlistment.
Curtis entered military service at Fort Niagara, Youngstown, New York, on February 28, 1942. He served in Company E, 2nd Ranger Battalion, as a Staff Sergeant during World War II. He was Killed in Action on June 6, 1944, at the age of 24, at Pointe du Hoc, during the American assault on Omaha and Utah beaches in France. SSgt Simmons is now buried in the Townline Cemetery, Rathbone, Steuben County, New York, USA.
