Michael “Musty” Vetovich was born on October 23, 1921, in Burgettstown, Washington County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Teofil Vetovich and Natalie Vetovich.

Michael had four years of high school, had a civil occupation as a machinist apprentice, and was single without dependents upon enlistment. He entered military service in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on October 6, 1942. He served in Company B, 2nd Ranger Battalion, as a Staff Sergeant during World War II. He was Killed in Action on June 6, 1944, at the age of 22, in Vierville-sur-Mer, during the American assault on Omaha Beach in France. SSgt Vetovich is now buried in the Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-Sur-Mer, France.
