Robert Raymond Whitehead was born on January 31, 1921, in Allentown, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Raymond J. Whitehead and Pauline S. Whitehead.

Robert had one year of high school, had a civil occupation as an unskilled molder, and was single without dependents upon enlistment. He was employed by Bethlehem Steel, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, prior to his enlistment. Robert served in Company B, 2nd Ranger Battalion, as a Private First Class during World War II. He was Killed in Action on June 6, 1944, at the age of 23, in Vierville-sur-Mer, during the American assault on Omaha Beach in France. PFC Whitehead is now buried in the Cedar Hill Memorial Park, Allentown, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, USA.
