Henry Clasper Ballinger was born on January 30, 1914, in Putney, London Borough of Wandsworth, Greater London, England. He was the son of Sydney J. Ballinger and of Matilda Ballinger (nee Clasper), of New York City, U.S.A.

Henry served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. He was an air gunner who was killed in a Wellington aircraft that took off on a non-operational training flight on November 27, 1942. It crashed at 2 a.m. in Spey Bay, Scotland.
