Carl served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. He was Killed in Action on October 25, 1941, on board Wellington Bomber X9989, which took off from RAF Harwell en route to Gibraltar. The aircraft failed to gain height due to a faulty hydraulic system and crashed at Aldworth, Berkshire.
