Richard Trent Botkin, of Lexington, Kentucky, was born on February 24, 1913, in Caldwell, Sumner County, Kansas. He was the son of Ralph Waldo Botkin and Faye Viola Trent Botkin. He was the husband of Madge Inez Sullivan Ahuna.

Richard served in the 405 Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Flight Lieutenant during World War II. He was Killed in Action on October 9, 1943, when his Lancaster aircraft # JA 980 was shot down over Steinberg, Germany, during a night trip to Hanover, Germany.
