Harry Frederick Bottomley was the son of Francis K. Bottomley and Elsie V. Bottomley of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States.

He served in the 625 (R.A.F.) Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Sergeant during World War II. On April 11, 1944, his crew took off at 2234h from Kelstern to bomb the railway yards. Shot down by a night fighter piloted by Helmut Bergmann of 8/NJG 4, around 03:00 AM, their Lancaster III ND636 aircraft crashed midway between Pont-de-Metz and Guignemicourt (Somme) 7 km southwest of Amiens, France.
