Cuthbert Worcester Graham Burke, of Washington, D. C., was born on December 12, 1913, in Panama City, Panama to a British father and a Jamaican mother. He was orphaned as a young man and traveled all over the world. He enlisted in the RCRCAF from Washington DC. He served in the 425 Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Warrant Officer II (Air Bomber) during World War II. He was Killed in Action on April 8, 1943, when his Halifax aircraft #LW 500 was shot down by a German flak ship off Dieppe, France, during a trip to Nuremberg, Germany. Six RAF members of the crew were also killed. This was P/O Burke’s fourth operation and his was one of the 108 Allied aircraft lost this night.
