Francis Wayne Gennette was born on April 23, 1918, in New York. He was the son of H. Wayne Gennett and Florence Burke Gennett, of Bedford, Indiana.

Francis served in the #20 Operational Training Unit of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Flight Sergeant during World War II. He was killed on September 11, 1942, when his Wellington T2561 crashed near Elsendorp, The Netherlands. The aircraft was shot down by the night fighter crew of Hauptmann Werner Streib & Oberfeldwebel Walter Ruscher of the Stab I./NJG 1, who were flying a Bf 110 F-4 from Venlo airfield.
