James Robert Harrison was born on February 23, 1916, in Montclair, Essex County, New Jersey. He was the son of James R. and Ella E. Harrison, of St. Petersburg, Florida.

James Robert served in the #427 Lion Squadron (Eerie Manus Certas) of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Flying Officer during World War II. He was Killed in Action on October 22, 1943, when his Halifax aircraft #LK 633 crashed near Elbfinxen, Germany, during night operations over Kassel, Germany.
