Lyle Wilmot Hicks, of Barrington, Illinois, was born on March 25, 1920, in Loreburn, Saskatoon Census Division, Saskatchewan, Canada. He was the son of William Henry Hicks and Laverna Nettie "Verna" West Hicks, of Illinois.
Lyle served in the #426 Thunderbird Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Flight Sergeant during World War II. He was Killed in Action on February 16, 1944, when his Lancaster aircraft # DS 794 was shot down near Harderwijk, Holland (The Netherlands), during a night trip to Berlin, Germany.
