Winford Gordon Hicks was the son of Bynon and Ada M. Hicks, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He served in the # 429 Bison Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Flying Officer during World War II. He was Killed in Action on January 29, 1944, when his Halifax V LK746 aircraft, which took off at 00h11 from RAF Leeming, England, was shot down from 18000 feet by a Ju88 aircraft and crashed into trees near Teltow some 16 km southwest of the center of Berlin, Germany.
