Clarence Bruce Johnston was born on August 27, 1908. He was the son of Jediah B. Johnston and Effie Violet Shaw Johnston.
Clarence served in the United States Navy as a Machinist's Mate 1st Class Petty Officer during World War II. He was killed on October 22, 1942, during the Japanese invasion of Guam. On October 22, 1942, two American fugitives were tracked down by Japanese soldiers and shot to death in Machananao in northern Guam. They were Al Tyson and C. B. Johnston, both Navymen.
