Walter Anthony Kopacz was born on February 1, 1923, in Ludlow, Hampden County, Massachusetts. He was the son of Tony Kopacz and Frances (nee Kosek) Kopacz, of Westbrook, Maine.
Walter served in the 408 Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Flight Sergeant during World War II. He was Killed in Action on March 30, 1943, when his Halifax aircraft # DT 679 was shot down near Staplermoor, Germany, during a night operation over Berlin, Germany.
