Joseph Wendelin Kucinsky was born on May 6, 1920, in Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Joseph Andrew Kucinsky, of Wilkes-Barres, Pennsylvania, and Mary (nee Stefko) Kucinsky (deceased when Joseph enlisted).

Joseph served in the 405 Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Flight Sergeant during World War II. He was Killed in Action on June 25, 1943, when his Halifax aircraft # HR 816 went missing while making a night attack against Elberfeld, Germany.
