Sidney Leon Murrell was born on March 19, 1918, in Hood, Cooke County, Texas. He was the son of Joseph Bailey Murrell and Virginia Ellen "Virgie" Spann Murrell.
Sidney served in the 405 Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Flight Lieutenant during World War II. He was Killed in Action on June 22, 1943, when his Halifax aircraft # JD 124 went down near Monchen-Gladbach, Germany, during a night attack against Krefeld, Germany.
