George James Peck, Jr. was born on January 10, 1920, in South Orange Village Township, Essex County, New Jersey. He was the son of George James Peck and of Helen Duganne Peck, of Brooklyn, New York.

George James, Jr. served in the 214 (R.A.F.) Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Sergeant during World War II. A crew member of the Vickers Wellington Ic R1759 bomber aircraft, which, while returning from a night air operation over Hamburg, Germany, drifted too far north and crashed into the North Sea off Whitby, Yorkshire. All aboard perished; only two bodies were recovered for burial.
