Francis Weatherford Peterkin was born on August 1, 1917, in Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Albert Gordon Peterkin and Eleanor Frances Fricke Peterkin.

Francis served in the 419 Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Flight Sergeant during World War II. He was Killed in Action on October 22, 1943, when his Halifax aircraft #JD 382 was attacked by three enemy night fighter aircraft and shot down during a night raid against Kassel, Germany.
