Paul Leopold Rakoczy was born on July 2, 1920, in Fairpoint, Belmont County, Ohio. He was the son of John Stephen Rakoczy, of Detroit, Michigan, and Caroline Antoinette (nee Soostock) Rakoczy (deceased when Paul enlisted).

Paul served in the 10 (R.A.F.) Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Flight Sergeant during World War II. He was Killed in Action on June 29, 1943, when his Halifax II DT783, which took off at 23h37 from RAF Melbourne, England, was shot down by a night fighter (Maj G_nter Radusch 1.)
