Charles Derek Redgrave was born on December 24, 1921, in London, City of London, Greater London, England. He was the son of Maj. C. Reginald Redgrave, O.B.E., M.C., and Bertha Redgrave, of New York City.
Charles served in the 463 Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Flight Sergeant during World War II. He was declared Missing in Action on January 2, 1944, when his Lancaster aircraft # W 4897 failed to return from a night trip to Berlin, Germany. His body was never found.
