Talbot Jones Taylor III was born on June 18, 1916, in Glen Cove, Nassau County, New York. He was the son of Talbot Jones Taylor Jr., of Southport, Connecticut, and Louise Tiffany (nee Frank) Taylor, of New York, New York.

Talbot Jones III served in the 35 Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Pilot Officer during World War II. He was declared Missing in Action on June 6, 1942, when his Halifax aircraft # R 9439 went missing, presumed over enemy territory. His body was never found and is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial in England. He also has another cenotaph in the Locust Valley Cemetery, New York.
