William Stone Tyler was born on August 8, 1920, in Edinburg, Hidalgo County, Texas. He was the son of William Stanton Tyler and Belle Stone Tyler, of Sulphur Springs, Texas.
William served in the 405 Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Pilot Officer during World War II. He was Killed in Action on April 15, 1942, when his Wellington aircraft #W 5427 was shot down at Cologne, Germany during a night attack against Dortmund, Germany.
He is now buried in the Rheinberg War Cemetery, in Germany, and has a cenotaph in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Texas.
