J W Arant was born on January 11, 1922, in Marshall County, Kentucky. He was the son of Byrd M. Arant and Nellie L. Arant. He was married to Ruby Ann Frances Cope Garland.
He served in Company G, 2nd Battalion, 22nd Marine Regiment, 1st Provisional Marine Brigade, as a Private during World War II. He was Killed in Action on July 21, 1944, during the Battle for Guam.
