Francis Clare Beesley was born on August 25, 1923, in Adams County, North Dakota. He was the husband of Helen Marguerite Solem.
Beesley went to school in rural Orange Township but graduated from Lemmon High School in South Dakota with the class of 1940. He participated in many activities and was popular with his schoolmates. After high school, Mr. Beesley worked at Nick's Produce. He entered the defense industry and was employed by the Lockheed Corporation plant in Burbank, California. Beesley then entered the Marine Corps in May of 1943.
He served in the Battery A, 1st Battalion, 12th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division as a Private First Class during World War II. He died from his wounds received in battle on July 22, 1944, during the Battle for Guam.
