Francisco Viarrial Cardenas was born on June 4, 1923, in Del Rio, Val Verde County, Texas. He was the son of Herculano Cardenas and Guadalupe Villarreal Cardenas.
He served in Company F, 2nd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division as a Private First Class during World War II. He died from his wounds received in battle on August 2, 1944, during the Battle for Guam.
