Kenneth McKinley Carroll Jr. was born on April 18, 1924, in Rio Blanco, Rio Blanco County, Colorado. He was the son of Kenneth McKinley Carroll and Winnie Francis Schurman Carroll.

He served in Company F, 2nd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division as a Private First Class during World War II. He was Killed in Action on July 24, 1944, during the Battle for Guam.
