Nicholas Castigliego was born on February 26, 1922. He attended local schools and was garduated from Guiteras Junior High School. He worked in Bristol as a fisherman and was employed for a time at the Collins and Aikman Corporation plant in that town. He entered the Marine Corps in January 1942. He was an expert rifleman and machine gunner and was attached to a machine gun unit.
He served in Company C, 1st Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division as a Private First Class during World War II. He was Killed in Action on July 22, 1944, during the Battle for Guam.
