Thurman Edward Chipman was born on September 14, 1918, in Waterville, Kennebec County, Maine. He was the son of Harley R. Chipman and Harriet May Dorathy Chipman.
Chipman attended the Waterville public schools and prior to his enlistment on July 30, 1940, was employed by the Wyandotte Worsted Company. He served in Company K, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division as a Corporal during World War II. He was Killed in Action on July 21, 1944, during the Battle for Guam.
