Silver Star Citation:
The President of the United States takes pride in presenting the Silver Star Medal posthumously to Henry Murry Comer, Hospital Apprentice Second Class, United States Naval Reserve: "For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while attached to the 3rd Battalion, 21st Marines, 3rd Marine Division during an attack by enemy Japanese forces at Guam, Marianas Islands, on July 26, 1944. When the battalion aid station was surrounded and the wounded were being fired upon by the enemy, Comer unhesitatingly risked his life to defend the men under his care. Fearlessly exposing himself to heavy Japanese machine-gun and rifle fire, he took up a firing position in an open section of the perimeter and bravely countered the fierce attack until killed by enemy fire. His exceptionally courageous action and high devotion to duty contributed essentially to the rout of the enemy and reflect the greatest credit upon Comer and the United States Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.
