John Frederick Dahl Jr. was born on January 23, 1922. He was the son of John F. Dahl and Edith May Dahl. Dahl was a graduate of Benson High School. He was employed by the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company before he enlisted in the Marine Corps in May 1942.
He served in the Headquarters and Service Company, 2nd Engineer Battalion, United States Marine Corps as a Corporal during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 5, 1944, during the Battle for Guam.
