Perley Franklin Deane was born on August 25, 1921, in Bernardston, Franklin County, Massachusetts. He was the son of Ralph E. Deane and Rena M. Hale.
Deane was employed in the Millers Falls Company but was working for Minor Haskell of Bernardston when he was inducted into the Marine Corps in August 1943. He served in the Signal Company, Headquarters Battalion, 3rd Marine Division as a Private First Class during World War II. He was declared as Missing in Action on August 6, 1944, during the Battle for Guam.
