Edgar Lockwood Hamilton was born on December 23, 1923, in Oak Park, Cook County, Illinois. He was the son of Woodman Clark Hamilton Sr. and Dorothy Amy Fish Hamilton.
He served in Company G, 2nd Battalion, 21st Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division as a Private First Class during World War II. He was Killed in Action on July 22, 1944, during the Battle for Guam.
