Leonard Roy Hanstead was born on May 27, 1923, in Washington. He was the son of Anton Evenson "Tony" Hanstead and Anna Benson Hanstead.
He served in the 2nd Battalion, 21st Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division as a Pharmacist Mate Second Class during World War II. He was Killed in Action on July 26, 1944, during the Battle for Guam.
