Oscar Winfred Holmquist Jr. was born on May 9, 1926, in Roberts County, South Dakota. He was the son of Oscar Winfred Holmquist Sr. and Hannah Eveline Dahlgren Holmquist.
He served in Company A, 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Provisional Marine Brigade as a Private First Class during World War II. He died from his wounds received in battle on July 23, 1944, during the Battle for Guam.
