Edward M. Howard was born on August 20, 1915. He was the son of James A. Howard and Elizabeth Agnes Matthews Howard. He was married to Florence M. Howard.

He served in the 307th Infantry Regiment, 77th Division as a Staff Sergeant during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 3, 1944, during the Battle for Guam.
