Frank George Hyla was born on November 2, 1919, in Old Forge, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania.
He served in the United States Naval Reserve as an Electrician's Mate Third Class during World War II. He was originally classified as Missing in Action on Guam. His classification was later changed to Declared Dead while Missing. He died from his wounds received in battle on July 23, 1944, during the Battle for Guam. He also has a cenotaph in Saint Joseph's Cemetery, Yonkers, Westchester County, New York, USA.
