Robert Emmett Johnson was born on August 4, 1918, in Saint Paul, Ramsey County, Minnesota. He was the son of Axel August Johnson and Esther D. Swanander Johnson.
He served in the Headquarters and Service Company, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Provisional Marine Brigade as a Platoon Sergeant during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 2, 1944, during the Battle for Guam.
