John David Kirkwood was born on December 26, 1922. He was the son of George Claude Kirkwood and Cora Lena Nearmyer Kirkwood.
He served in Company B, 1st Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division as a Sergeant during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 1, 1944, during the Battle for Guam.
