Robert Earl Lansley was born on December 19, 1922, in Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York. He was the son of James T. Lansley and Anna Marie Kilmade Lansley.
He served in Company A, 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Provisional Marine Brigade as a Corporal during World War II. He also served as a Marine Corps Dog Handler. His dog was a doberman pincher named Andy. He worked off-leash and was an easy read. He alerted several times, the first day on Bougainville, breaking up Japanese attacks. Lansley was Killed in Action on July 21, 1944, during the Battle for Guam.
